BATTLE OF THE KETCHUP BOTTLE

Have you ever noticed the different views people have on what’s empty?

A ketchup bottle, for example, meant to stand right side up, gets stood upside down to get out the remnants. Those remnants which are gooey and watery and icky: I don’t want to fight the bottle. This battle also led to buying relish in a jar because neither of us liked to try to squeeze out the last pickle bits.

I wonder about the bread battle in your house. When there’s just crusts in the bag, do you throw it out and start a new loaf?

My mother would rinse out spaghetti sauce jars. That’s not weird. I mean, doesn’t everybody? However, she would pour the water she had liberally used to rinse into the sauce pan. Talk about thin sauce?!!

How about toothpaste? I squeeze out the last bit of toothpaste on my toothbrush and he comes along behind and stands there, trying to force more out rather than start the new tube. Better keep close track of the shampoo bottle…

Toilet paper? Who’s always reaching for paper from…an empty roll. (Need a hint?)

Does anyone else have a different opinion on which way the top sheet should lie on the bed? When I grew up, my mother just wanted me to make my bed. Apparently he was taught that the printed sheets should face each other. (I still just want the bed to get made) I do remember spending the night at my friend’s house who had twin beds in her room. The next morning I started to make up the bed and she stopped me. “You won’t be able to make it properly.” “Huh?”

Even my son informed me I don’t fold T-shirts properly so he would fold his own. Yes, that saves me some work but again, I just fold laundry.

Who’s out there reading this who is a list-maker? Welcome to the club. I have been teased about making lists. Lists keep me focused. I also like crossing off each completed item. I don’t know your system. I always start with the most difficult task and work my way through to the simplest.

I know there are many journalers out there. I don’t write a daily journal. However, when I am going through an unusual experience, I write my daily thoughts. I had surgery recently. I never had this type of surgery before so I wrote down my progress. I also photographed my scar as it healed. Yup, you guessed it. I was mocked for doing both!

Some people fill their gas tank when it’s on empty. Others fill when it’s at half. Still others read the manual to find out the exact level it should be filled at for the “health” of the engine. Which one are you? Or maybe you’re like me. I fill it as I pass my favorite gas station, look down, and think “now’s a good time.”

Since you’re reading my blog I will presume you also read books. Most of us, who have not forsaken all “real” books for e-readers, are reading paperback books. I have a pet peeve which has become a huge battle with certain people in my life is this: setting the book down open to the page being read, bending the spine. These same people bend over the corner of the read page. Then there are people who will break off a piece of the cover to use as a toothpick! Perhaps I should have entitled this the “Battle of the Book!”

I suppose I could keep writing forever about different battles. There are people who never get clothes in the hamper. Some people have a pile of clothes that are “mostly clean” they plan to wear again. Will the dog sleep in our bed or his bed? Fresh air to sleep or not?

See what I mean?
